If anyone is still having this issue could you please name your villagers and periodically check your logs? After barricading all but 3 of my villagers inside their houses and then naming the 3 still left free to roam around, I discovered how my villagers were disappearing. My villagers were not dispawning. My sad discovery is detailed in MC-265023.
Poor Sally. I attached a screenshot of her old bed. Asking me to attach a screenshot of this horrifying behavior occurring is unreasonable because taking a screenshot would require me to know when it's about to happen. It is a very rare occurrence in my game. I have a feeling this problem will not be further looked into. If anyone's villagers are disappearing, try removing all blocks over a 3 block height or more practically try placing a fence around entrances to the villagers doors to their houses to keep them from choosing death.
Just as a coincidence I am wondering if there are other players who are also having strange things occurring in their game? Attached is a screenshot of some Lily of the valley flowers that up until entering creative mode my fox, Cinnamon sat down in and wouldn't stand back up again. Also attached is a screenshot of some farmland and buildings. For some reason for a little while my villagers kept jumping off the ledges in this area hurting themselves. As in multiple villagers making back to back to back jumps. My villagers are slowly disappearing and I'm a little afraid that the two issues are related. No new blocks were added in this area either.
Attached is a screenshot of my cherry trees. I decided to plant one last sapling and see how long it took for it to grow. Around 7 days went by and I used about 5 bone meal and the sapling was still stuck on stage 1. I ended up cheating my game into creative mode so I would have unlimited bone meal, easily 200 bone meal or more later the sapling turned into a tree.
Thank you for the response. It turns out it was just a coincidence with the cherry blossoms being near the lanterns. All of my cherry blossoms finally turned into trees, it just took some of them quite awhile to grow. I put over 30 bone meal on each of the saplings that seemed stuck and it was not enough, but after a few more in game days they finally became trees.
So after initially reporting this issue I tried to see if I could purposefully cause my villagers to despawn somehow. I went to the nether, the end, and went on an expedition in the over world and I had 1 named axolotal disappear with no explanation in my logs. The villagers were all accounted for though. So I believe I have found out the cause of why my villagers were disappearing-they were making however many jumps necessary to die. I have not confirmed, but still believe that the villagers furthest away from the center of the village were purposefully pathfinding their way to a particular ledge so they could die. It would be one thing if the villagers are getting stuck in a loop and keep jumping from a high place, but that unfortunately wouldn't explain why my group of isolated villagers (furthest from the center of the village) suddenly decided to interact with the main part of the village for the first time and coincidentally died that same day.
