This might also happen rarely but its a texture loading glitch that happens. Just reboot the game and everythings should be back to normal if it happens again.

Perhaps you don't know that in order to disable a spawner you have to surround it with torches on all sides which the block directly faces and on the top. Then mobs from that spawner will no longer spawn regardless of air blocks with low light levels near the spawner.
