Thats called quasi-connectivity and is more like a redstone feature than a bug, you can see that used in multiple redstone contraptions. It also does work from the up diagonals. It's a know bug that was closed for 'Work as intended'. There should be a reddit page for that that's linked on MC-108

Yeah the armor remodeling would might be better in form of a suggestion maybe.

Its the same thing for armor too.
