This happened to me, then i posted here and within a day it was mysteriously fixed...

Skeletons shoot faster the closer you are, Every one complained about minecraft being too easy, so now zombies are a big threat. A little bit of an over kill, but works as intended.

1. This isn't a bug
2. If Mojang really didn't want un-registered users to play minecraft, there wouldn't be options for it in the server options, so you're fine

With new minecraft accounts you need to put the E-mail address in the username spot in the launcher. 🙂

try /gamerule domobspawning true ? When false nothing spawns naturally. 🙂

Did you mess with the profiles on the launcher? If so, you may have lowered the amount of ram that Java starts with. If not, try to allocate more ram using the bottom box in the profile editor. 🙂

It might be something to do with your power settings, i know that on Windows7 there is an automatic change in behavior when a laptop is plugged and when it is not. This causes the battery to last longer at the sacrificial of your PC's performance. 🙂

It has affected all the snapshots for 1.6 and only 3 where available.
