Noteworthy is that both split screen player skins reset upon entering the nether.

Also, reapplying a short skin doesn't always update the armor size, so that can make the player walk around in a too big armor which they visually clip through (as seen by the other split screen player).

This is on Xbox Series X Game Pass. 

I've got the same issue while playing Minecraft split screen on Xbox Series X via game pass. Would be lovely to see a bug fix.
