Same thing for me when I place a bunch in a row some stay some go back into my inventory
Problem still persists, Olli's temporary solution of not opening the launcher with internet works, however there are some issues with ghost Minecraft applications running and requiring force quit via activity monitor.
What version of macOS do you have?
If it is 10.14.6 or lower, this issue is being tracked here at MCL-21264.
I had the same issue starting yesterday, and they 'resolved' my issue and sent me there. If you are still having this problem please like and follow MCL-21264 so the issue can be addressed faster.
Also add your information to the comment change and attach any logs.
Kind regards,

Same issue here on a 2012 Mac Book Pro, (macOS Sierra 10.12.6), unable to open Minecraft launcher and failure to load the NativeUpdater. Yesterday was fine, but reloading Minecraft Launcher killed it.
Uninstalled, and reinstalled, deleted, still nothing. Tried opening from launcher.exec, but still had problems. Updated Java, and still ain't working. Launcher doesn't stay in activity monitor long enough for it to be forced stopped.
Rolling back launcher or providing static pre-update launcher would be great.
I am having the same issue, however NO ONE has access to my accounts, and I have even updated the passwords to ensure it isn't someone accessing them. Even updated my email passwords as a safety measure.
Every time I try to log into an online server, I am kicked and m prompted with a Failed to Login: Unable to verify login.
I close the game, and every time I open up the launcher, I am forced to login again... Then the whole things repeats, I can usually get it to work after 4-5 times of relogging in, but today I have done well over 20 times and still am being logged out.
Same here doesn’t work in IPad and ps5
