I had this issue as well on Windows 10.
Erik Widell's workaround above just worked for me.
If any one is wondering the "auto update" is the Windows Store auto update.
To turn that auto update off:
On the Start screen, select Microsoft Store to open the Store.
Select the account menu (profile icon next to the search box), then select "App settings".
Toggle App updates off.
