Have you had Touch Controls (or similar) option on?
This might be your input. Microsoft Pinyin uses Ctrl+Space to switch between Chinese and English, and when in Chinese mode you will type characters. Press Shift+Alt to switch to English input type.
I remember that 64x32 skin even displays layer 2 parts from other skin (just say no screenshots though)
This have seemed to cause block lighting colour to take precendence over sky light colours in some situations as well.
