I've had this problem for some time. Today my main local world is relatively big, I explored the Nether and the Ender (my savegame is > 200mb). I have 2 Nintendo switchs, up to date, with Minecraft 1.19.60, and the problem is present on both. The game is installed directly on the console (and not on the SD card). No mods installed. Today, the game is no longer playable, even by lowering the settings.
From what I have seen:

  • There are big slowdowns, or freezes, during auto saves

  • Slowdowns occur when data/assets are loading

  • During these slowdowns, it often happens that no sound is heard, and suddenly, when it seems to be unlocked, all the sounds are played at the same time

  • The more the size of the save increases, the more the slowdowns are important (almost no problem with a freshly started game, but very quickly the slowdown occurs the more you start to explore it)

  • Some biomes pose more problems than others (example: Basalt Deltas).

  • When using a boat, the elements load very slowly, and the screen only displays white. By remaining motionless for a moment, the elements are displayed slowly. Same problem if you run fast.

  • Nether loading is also slowed down. Once through the portal, and the world loaded, the screen stays on the Minecraft logo for a long time. If an ostile mob is nearby, he has plenty of time to kill me before the screen appears.

For me, there is an obvious link between the size of the save file, and the loading of data/assets
