Yes. Still have the world, I went to the same exact location and tried it again. (I used OptiFine on accident just now but I tried it again without it, still happens)

For some context, I now have a GTX 1060 3GB with an i7 4790, Java 8 Update 51 on Windows 10.

Just found it works with other blocks which are not a full block but has metadata, like flowers.
