I managed to find a woodland mansion more than 30,000 blocks away from my base, following an explorer map, thanks to Marcus Schumacher's tip. The pointer was at the bottom, so I went North. At some point, the pointer went into the map, but since the terrain was not being filled, I knew this was just the bug. He said the bug only happens when you need to go East or South. Since I had come from the South, I went East. It took a little more work than it should have, but I found it.

This bug makes explorer maps useless, since there's no way to know in which direction to go to get to the location in the map.
