I can confirm this is an issue, they appear way too frecuently and can spawn inside houses regardless of lighting

I dont have any villagers, but the pillagers are spawning inside my house regardless of the fact that is full of torches, and they appear from nowhere to kill you in your own house, I don't think that's normal.
