I'm playing in Java edition on snapshot 20w22a and i have the same problem. I've visited two villages and a nether stronghold and every chest was empty.

a full reinstall of Minecraft helped to resolve the issue. I was then able to download the package
I tried the suggested workarounds except the full re-install of Minecraft. Unfortunately these do not work I cannot do any changes in the settings to the package, it just sits there in 'downloading' status.
re a full uninstall - how would I go about that? I would not want to loose all the worlds and settings, is there a way to back these up? I looked into the system folders of the tablet but could not find any. I tried to change the save location to external but still no files.
Thanks Jay for your fast response. I see that the main ticket you refer me to is for the Win10 platform. Would it still be a duplicate?
By the way, this isn't really a duplicate, because my point is that you can cause infinite item stcks to happen, while the "duplicate" is that the client crashes. I would mark this as related, but because it's fixed, I don't really care whatever this is marked as.

Yeah, it's maybe not all items, but all the ones I tested. I tested Steak, armor stands, and blocks. I really don't know what to make of this
This issue occurs when using any item stack that has exactly 1 item (Placing a block/eating food/placing an armorstand).
Solution would be to set all item stacks with a item count of less than 1 to null
Please fix quickly, it's one of the most game-breaking bugs currently.
EDIT: If this wasn't clear, it crashes anytime an item is consumed and the item count gets to 0 (so not in Creative mode.)
