It is not that they forget, but that since there are no beds available they cannot sleep and therefore they stay all night scared and finally if you want a villager to take out an iron golem you have to make him or many villagers scared like this they will invoke them

If you give looters a Maldeano flag, they won't grab it because they're already programmed to carry only the one the game gives them.
