This is still true in 1.19.0 Java on Windows. It works if I reset the "pick block" keybind, but not when I have "pick block" bound to a different key.
Specifically in the creative inventory SEARCH tab. The other tabs without text input work.
The interesting thing is that, for me, the lead hasn't "broken" in the sense that... it's still attached to the fence post and the item isn't floating on the ground. However, the allay is no longer attached.
