If just the skins are steve then you may need to go into your profile settings and turn "only allow trusted skins" off.

I believe this is fixed in the latest beta so this bug should be fixed in the next update of the game.

Did you make sure your nether portals were linked? If not I suggest looking up how to link nether portals and this should fix the issue.
