Could be that you are using an old graphics card, or you need to update the one you are using right now. You should also try to see if you are updated to the newest version of Java

Hi! Does this sort of issue happen to your son a lot? Or did it just recently happen?

If it recently happened it most likely could be that he has to restart his game in order for the skins to be added onto his list. Stuff like this happens for a lot of games when you make a market purchase. A simple reset can fix it.

You can try an Alternative Minecraft Launcher, or try to check for some software installed on your pc that is causing the issue. Such as firewalls and anti viruses. I might even suggest to update to the newest version of Java if you have not already done that.

Try to update your graphics card or your java to the newest version.

Try to reinstall the entire game

Go to %appdata%, find your .Minecraft folder and delete it, but save your worlds/screenshots and versions if you must.
Then go to control panel and delete the game. Reinstall the whole game and maybe that should fix your launcher issue.

It probably had to be a glitch. Similiar to multiplying multiple items. Does it keep on happening? Or was it a one time thing

The new update is still undergoing major bugs, especially with the servers, and servers for realms. Some others had have similiar encounters to you. The issue will most likely be fixed very soon.
