I want to create a private Minecraft: Bedrock Edition server specifically so my kids can play Minecraft: Bedrock with their cousins who don't have Xbox Live accounts. Unfortunately, I am unable to join without Xbox live despite online-mode=false in the server.properties file due to the account login screen. Because online play is essential to the Minecraft experience, and this setting was likely added specifically to prevent this situation, I assume this is a bug.
Thank you all so much for making such a wonderful game!
Edit: I read the comments surrounding the online-mode=false setting in the server.properties file and found this:
online-mode=false# If true then all connected players must be authenticated to Xbox Live.# Clients connecting to remote (non-LAN) servers will always require Xbox Live authentication regardless of this setting.# If the server accepts connections from the Internet, then it's highly recommended to enable online-mode.# Allowed values: "true" or "false"
If that is true, why does this setting even exist? The server isn't visible to LAN, so it seems to be a moot point. My bug report still stands. Thank you for your great work.

I'm using online-mode=false without issues, and friends can connect to my server without xbox account. Do your children's cousins connect via LAN or internet? Do they receive any error when trying to connect?
I haven't tried connecting from the internet yet, as I haven't sent them the IP. I was testing the connection from an Android tablet without Xbox live from my local network. It still required a login.

I've just tested this and it appears to be working as expected.
online-mode=false only allows you to access local LAN servers from the "Friends" tab, as the comment in the server.properties describes. Any time you try to access a server from the "Servers" tab (by using the IP or connecting to a featured server) it will require you to log in regardless of the online-mode setting.
If I've missed something please let me know but as far as I can tell there's no bug here. I'll chuck the report in awaiting response status. Commenting back will re-open it if you believe I've tested wrong.
