Snowgolem generates snow even if not moving

Is this behaviour really intended ?
That the snow golem generates snow while moving is clearly intended, but that it does also when standing still ?

I think that it's a bug. It's confirmed that when he moves, it generates the trail but when standing still, it will make an infinite generation and maybe it should just generate 1 block of snow...

No it says in the wiki i think it said a 1*2 hole in the ground over and over let me check and quote it
"Because Snow Golems leave a constant trail of snow as they move (except in Plains, Swamps, Deserts, Beaches, Jungles, Mushroom Biomes, and the Nether), it is possible to farm that snow. However, because of their habit of attacking hostile mobs, it would be wise to ensure the Snow Golem is in an enclosed, safe place in the beginning. The simplest method is to create a 1x1 hole that is 2 blocks deep, and to put both the player and the Snow Golem in. Then the player would look straight down and dig the snow layer beneath the golem. @Megan: Does not prove it's intended. The wiki is user generated stuff and as this is possible some user wrote about that. Still does not mean it is intended.

Players depend on this behavior to harvest large quantities of snowballs for large builds. Therefore, this behavior should be maintained as there is an in-game benefit.

@unknown, sometimes that's the reason why something should be changed. Just because players find a particular behavior beneficial doesn't mean it's good for the game. For example, bugs that allow players to duplicate items.

I don't personally think this behavior is particularly harmful, but nonsensical and unnecessary. Snow could still be collected more quickly and easily than most other blocks, even if snow golems only produced snow while moving.

I appreciate your careful thought and I mostly agree with you. The game should contain only beneficial features, but I think this particular change would do more harm than good.

You stated that changing this behavior will not prevent players from collecting snow "quickly and easily" but I must disagree. Have you ever tried to collect snow on the ground in Minecraft? The slow wooden shovel is arguably the best tool when working on a dirt surface since highly enchanted shovels will plow through the snow and break any dirt blocks underneath instantaneously. In comparison to holding down left-click at the feet of a trapped Snow Golem, this is woefully inefficient. A player can go through the entire durability of an iron shovel and generate hundreds of snowballs in mere seconds. The benefits are easily-craftable snow blocks for building and spontaneous snowball fights with friends.

Changing this behavior for the sake of gameplay purity is not a good reason. Sometimes nonsensical and unnecessary lead to serendipity.

I didn't mean snow would continue to be as quick and easy to gather as it is currently – only that it would still be quicker and easier to gather than most other blocks, such as stone, dirt, gravel, etc. Why should snow be so much quicker and easier to collect than any other block? What reasons are there that don't apply just as well to those other blocks? Should it be possible to acquire hundreds of any block or item in "mere seconds"?

Why shouldn't snow be so much quicker and easier to collect? Minecraft is a game filled with unique items that have unique properties. In fact, the developers prefer not to add new blocks/items without unique properties. Something has to be the easiest and quickest block to collect so why not snow? It seems reasonable given that snow blocks are also easily broken.

Now if something like obsidian were so easily obtained, we might have a problem...
