Taming wild Llamas works fine. The problem is when you tame a llama, all of the llamas that become part of the 'caravan'.
You can sit on these llamas, but you cannot view their inventory because technically they are not 'tamed'. Because you can sit on them, you cannot tame them either. Basically if you find a pack of llamas you can only use one of them because the rest get stuck in this 'in-between' type state.

I don't know what the reporter of MC-108105 means by "in between state"
I thought it meant that the llamas had trouble pathfinding in caravans.
This ticket states you cannot tame a llama in a caravan. Your ticket states llamas won't caravan down mountains. Not a duplicate.
I don't know if I can be any more clear...
Step A) Tame llama in a group
Step B) Attempt to tame a llama that is part of the caravan, which is not the one you just tamed
Expected result? You should be able to tame the llama, allowing you to place a chest into its inventory and place a carpet on its back.
Actual result? You can only sit on the llama, but you cannot access its inventory.
