Crafting Recipes with Tags do not Behave like Groups

Recipes which use tags do not have the same right-click menu pop up for choosing which items you want to use in the recipe.

If you have two stacks of different types of wood, you cannot choose which will be used when crafting a stick.

This seems to me like an oversight, given we already have the grouping functionality. I'm not really sure if I can classify this as a bug, but it can be argued that it is one.

If tags are made to behave like grouping, that could significantly cut down the number of files needed in a datapack. Even the vanilla datapack could benefit from this.

Please do not mark unreleased versions as affected.
You don't have access to them yet.

Can confirm. Also, affects 1.13-pre7.

This is likely WAI, but would be helpful.

This is a suggestion, not a bug.

Sticks is actually a pretty good example. You can use bamboo and any type of wood to craft sticks.
However, because bamboo is a different recipe, since bamboo is not in the blanks tag, the bamboo recipe gets its own section, while wood is simply cycling.
The idea behind not grouping tags might have been that you can also combine two different types of wood in the stick recipe.

It's hard to say what's the intended behaviour though.

Problem with this bug report is that with tags (for example the stick recipe), the item ID does not need to be the same for all instances (you can mix plank types, but not bamboo with planks), having it drop down every single possible combination would be a nightmare, and if it only does it for same-type combinations, it'll not communicate mix-ability in any way anymore. Mix-ability is communicated now with the cycling of the options.
