The Bug:
Minecarts that occupy the same space maintain their momentum.
Steps to Reproduce:
Build the setup as shown in the provided attachment below.
Place around seven minecarts on the rail above the diamond block.
Break the emerald block and watch the minecarts closely.
Take note as to whether or not minecarts that occupy the same space maintain their momentum.
Observed Behavior:
The minecarts maintain their momentum, although they are not being pushed by anything but themselves.
Expected Behavior:
Minecarts that occupy the same space would not maintain their momentum.

Is this still a concern on Minecraft 1.4.4 Pre-Release? If so, please update the version affected.
Can you replicate this issue in latest version of the minecraft? If so, can you please update the ticket?
How is decreasing the hitbox going to fix it? The hit boxen is too small on the minecart in the first place. The way to fix is this to apply some error margin in the equation around the borders of the hitbox(also correct the hitbox).
Can we get a confirmation of whether this happens in 13w10a and an update to the affected versions?
The glitch everyone is seeing is the exact same that made boosters work way back when, when the one cart's mesh intersected the other cart's mesh, causing the physics engine to accelerate both carts.
This happens all the way up to 13w18c, I hadn't known this was found before.
That's it, I'm never posting bugs again lol, always being duplicated...
ALSO, easier way to do it: Place ONE track, spawn many carts on it, touch carts.
You don't need a ramp, you can just stack minecarts on a one block track, then push them off. If are pushed off a high tower, they will gently float down, slower, and more horizontal then a regular minecart.
I dont want this to go cuz i wall doing this on a really high extreme mountin in the snapshot and it flew of the mountin with me in it and i started to glide foward and slowly decend a i was going in a directions fast and slowly decending and i was bossted up by the minecarts slowly falling off but when they did they pushed me up.
so basically this is one of the only planes without mods in minecraft!
Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 14w30c? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Confirmed in 14w30c. It is harder to place them, but it's possible to summon the minecarts on the rail and push them.
Still doable in 1.8.1-pre2 via dropping the minecarts from above, they'll stack and when stacked they'll push themselves until blocked by an obstacle.
I suggest marking this as related to MC-103933.
I suggest a discussion be brought up on whether this qualifies as as Works As Intended (or unsolfable, if such a resolution type exists) - as this is the second oldest unresolved bug report, and the oldest unassigned one.
Why the unsolvable/WAI explanation? Minecarts behave as entities, as all other mobs do: if they encounter a force pushing on them, they push away to avoid having huge amounts contained in the same space. Of course, this could be bothersome to some, but how would such a thing be fixed? Enabling cramming on minecarts? You could potentially end up with large numbers of minecarts stuck together on the ground, virtually inseparable save for destroying each and every one- they would be an excellent source of lag, along with a long host of other reasons as to why this mechanic is necessary in their functionality.
Thoughts?
If it was just collision, it would push one Minecart in one direction and the other one in the opposite direction. This behavior is so counter-intuitive that's its definitely not WAI. That something is not assigned to someone doesn't mean too much, it's mainly an information for the person it's assigned to. It basically says: You are the one who would have to fix it. It says nothing about if they try to fix it the next week or so, just that no other developer tries it, because it's not their special fields.
Same, they seem to be splitting off instead of moving as one. Might be fixed, but I'm not super experienced with minecarts...
This has been a long lasting problem. I have also encountered this whilst playing 1.5 and 1.6
I've noticed that in my redstone world, I have a piston bolt and when I put a lot of minecarts on the first rail and activate the piston bolt, for one it will make a ton of noise, but the minecarts will do this.
Recently I have found that stacked minecarts has a infinite motion, making them behaves so strange.I think that may be produced buy the pushment between the minecarts.
When I tested this with about 150 minecarts, pushed them, logged out of the world and re-logged, they started going into the opposite direction because the Motion
overflowed into negative infinity.
I'd like to request ownership of this ticket since the current reporter has been inactive for over a year. I'm willing to keep this ticket updated and will continue to provide all of the necessary details.
Since mine carts can push other mine carts, it would cause an infinite momentum if they are inside each other. One will push the other, and the one pushed will push the other, etc. This can possibly be fixed if they decrease the hit box of their mine carts.
