What I expected to happen was...:
Put minecarts side by side.
What actually happened was...:
If rails are on the Z axis (EAST-WEST), 3 minecarts cannot be placed on 3 consecutive rails.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Put 3 consecutive rails on the Z axis (this bug doesn't happen on X axis)
2. Try to place any minecart (not all tested, at least storage minecarts and rideable minecarts) on these three rails
3. Notice that they are pushed, without any energy.

Confirmed in 13w21b.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been deliviered.

No response for over a year.

This might be caused by MC-57896 since minecarts use their rotation to determine whether or not they should push an offset minecart.

can confirm for 22w13a

Please fix this, it makes creating reliable parallel lines with minecarts a chore to potentially impossible in some cases. It is an inconvenience that in turn has extremely negative consequences when beginning or trying to work with minecarts.
Fixed in the 24w33a+ minecart experiment. The minecarts no longer push each other:
