I just got this bug today – everything was working fine two days ago when I was playing. Reloading the world and going to the default resource pack didn't fix the issue, but it looks like re-starting Minecraft did.
If you are making a bug report, you should at least attach a screenshot of the bug you're talking about. We can't possibly help you if you just provide us with such things like "oh yeah my chest disappeared can you fix it". That will a) not let us know enough information (and thus not being able to fix it), and b) makes the bug tracker unnescessarily messy.
I have windows 10 and we updated the server to 1.14.4 and all my chests went invisible too.
I am using the java edition with fully updated windows 10

This has happened to me for the second time. I’ve tried copying the world and other trouble shooting, but my worlds are pretty much useless if I can’t access any of my chests, and it’s very upsetting.
I just experienced this issue (1.14.4). Earlier today all my chests were visible, now they aren't. They still seem to be usable, but all I see is a focus outline when I mouse over them. It is as if the rendering isn't working.
I had this bug too when I launched my save and went to my chests there were invincible. I was still able to use them like normal.
Note: All my chests were not in my render distance when I started and those chunks were loaded short while after.
