Ocelots not despawing; accumulate in Jungles over time

After some time of playing I've noticed a lot of ocelots (see crash raport and screenshots). Most of the time I'm inside jungle biome. This started to happen since snapshot 13w18a, using 13w17a makes most of the ocelots despawn after a while.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Not despawning:
    1. Spawn an ocelot.
    2. Walk more than 128 blocks away from it.
    3. Go back and see it hasn't despawned.

  • Jungle accumulating:
    1. Find a Jungle biome.
    2. Make sure you play at least on "easy".
    3. Fly more than 128 blocks above ground.
    4. Stay there for some time.
    5. Fly down and watch Ocelots are all over the Jungle.

Different issue than MC-4061 after all. Caused indeed by ocelots not despawning.

Confirmed.

Well they are called oce/lots/.

(Sorry)

I confirm the bug too. I'have encountered it in the latest snapshot, as you can see here: http://tof.canardpc.com/view/b9001ea0-6c8c-4525-9cd6-56e5c19f6a8e.jpg

More than 1000 entities, and it has reached nearly 2000 after some time around the jungle.

Please fix this issue, this causes extreme lag.

I have thousands of Ocelots right outside my house... well, some of them inside too. This in vanilla, single player PC version. Started with 13w18a.

must be in next update

This may need to be reopened. There are many reports of out-of-control ocelot spawning in recent 1.6.1 builds of CraftBukkit, and comments from Bukkit staff on the issue (https://bukkit.atlassian.net/browse/BUKKIT-4449) suggest that this is a vanilla bug.

it should be fix in 1.6.2!

Cannot reproduce with vanilla 1.6.x server & client.

There's a couple of different things going on here.

In 1.6, ocelots and wolves not have a 2 minute "don't despawn" period where they will persist even if there are no players nearby. If you build a holding pen, use a spawn egg to spawn in some ocelots, and fly straight up over 128 blocks, then I can reliably reproduce that ocelots won't despawn before this period, but will despawn after it. So there's no bug with ocelots *de*spawning, per se.

However ocelots do seem to be spawning more which, combined with the 2 minute immunity, means there are many many more ocelots being encountered. Whether this is a bug or intended behaviour is something only Mojang can answer.
