I was mining in a ravine when I noticed that the end seemed pink. I was carrying a clock and noticed it was evening. After a minute or two, the pinkness disappeared. You can see the times by the clock I was holding in the picture. I assumed that this was the evening affect, somehow appearing underground. My y-coords were 36, and the world itself was created in 13w18c.

As far as I know, that's just Minecraft's surface fog.
To my knowledge, there is no specific cave fog, so you will always be seeing surface fog or depth fog, where depth fog is the black colored fog at the bottom of the world.
I cannot confirm the separate fog types, because I haven't poked around Minecraft's code enough.
(Yes, I am a mod developer!)
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

This has been around forever, its something to do with the chunks loading and the background being the sky or something... if you align it, you can actually see the sun setting in a long tunnel underground.
