Villagers will not sleep in beds at night

The bug

Villagers will not go to their beds at night, and will often stand next to their house or wander around. Whenever I give them a little nudge they will usually head in to their house.

Still present in the full 1.14.4 release. Nudging or ringing the bell sometimes fixes it for individual villagers, but usually not.

I am seeing this too. Usually they will go to their bed with a nudge, but sometime you have to push them all the way to the bed.

I'm playing in 19w40a and I've managed to make a small village. This time, only the unemployed Villager doesn't go to the vacant bed. They go to the house with the vacant bed but as soon they go to the door, they open and then close it, and proceeds to wander away. This process basically loops, not even using the bed. It will only use the bed if I manage to trap the villager with a block as soon as they interact with a door. Now, even if they managed to use the bed this time, they'll proceed going to this loop behavior again.

In 1.15 snapshot 19w46b I found one village where only two villagers went to bed. I tried replacing a door and a bed and I think I managed to get one to go to bed, but I'm not sure if it was because of the door or the bed. I just found a new village and almost every villager went to bed, except for two or three. In my attached screenshot you'll see a villager out at night and behind it in the background is a house that contains an empty bed. I opened the door so you could see.

Sorry for the big picture. I know moderators know how to get a screen shot to show as a small thumbnail, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. If you're a moderator and know how us regular users can do this, please comment and let me know. I was able to resize the picture by clicking on it and dragging a corner down, maybe that's how it's done.

Affects 1.15.2  (and possibly duplicate of MC-149576, which was supposedly fixed.. but seems not..)

As of snapshot 20w13b issue still persists. Villagers will stand outside their homes (the wall closest to their bed it seems) and wait there all night. Albeit these are homes built custom but still not so complex they can't reach the bed.

To add to Dakota's info, I have observed the "stand just outside the wall" behavior mostly with the default generated homes, as I have only built one home myself, and even that was a copy of a default home. It can also happen independent of which direction they approach the home from; i.e. even from the easiest direction they might walk to the side of the home, instead of to and through the door that would have been a shorter and easier path to the bed.

If such wall-hugging villager gets pushed enough towards the house's front/door side, they often start moving to door and to bed.

The beds those villagers have not been able to get into have always been empty. (And once they get moving via pushing, they will happily use that bed.)

Sometimes villagers can also simply not go anywhere when night comes (e.g. near the center of village). They just keep standing where they were all through the night. I assume this situation might happen when the villager happens to be too far from his bed at that time, and pathfinding could have too low maximum search distance.

ER

Minecraft version 1.15.2  Some villagers stand outside at night although there are houses with beds available. In some cases, the villagers are standing right next to a house that contains empty beds.
