Banners with patterns are just black banners if loaded in a resource pack with format 4 that changes banner texture

It speaks for itself really.

So I made a resource pack that changes a bunch of things to red and I couldn't help but notice this.

All I did to the banner texture was change the stick the banner was on the red. I didn't change the color of the actual banner.

Also I made a discovery that it's not just Ominous banners, its ANY banner that has ANY design on it. The banner will just become the color of the last design you put on it. So like if I put a red Creeper charge on a white banner, the entire banner will turn red.

(Don't mind the pillager, inventory, environment, etc., they look like that from the resource pack)

I put it under attachments.
It'll say it's incompatible, but it'll work.

There was a change regarding shield patterns in the snapshots, to match how it was done for banners. In 1.15-pre1, the game tries to make old packs work as good as possible.
Now, if you change the pack version of the uploaded pack to 5, banners will look correctly, but shields won't.

My guess is that the game tries to apply the same compatibility fix for banners like it does for shields, but since banners were already using the same method as shields are using now, that breaks how shields look.

Pack has version 4, which is the format used in 1.14; 1.15 will use version 5, and version 4 is partially updated to that when possible, but this pack has banner patterns in 1.15 format, which makes them break on load; you need to either roll them back to 1.14 format, or update the pack fully to 1.15 format

Update version 4 to 5 - same issue still persists. But I finally understand what were saying here.

For anyone who was unable to figure out why this happens. It's a matter of the default models being updated in 1.15. If you haven't edited any banner or shield entities you can fix the issue by doing the following:

  1. Navigate to the 1.15 resources entity folder you extracted, it should resemble "1.15\assets\minecraft\textures\entity\banner" or "1.15\assets\minecraft\textures\entity\shield"

  2. Copy all items in folder and paste them into your resource pack with the same folder structure. For example "Vicks-1.15-Textures\assets\minecraft\textures\entity\banner" orΒ "Vicks-1.15-Textures\assets\minecraft\textures\entity\shield"

  3. Ensure you overwrite all files.Β

  4. Log in to Minecraft v1.15 if not already and load your resource pack. If you are already logged in "F3+T" will reload your pack.Β
