Piston destroys images and item frams if retracted

Steps:

  1. Place a image or a item frame on a block

  2. Place a piston in front of image or item frame

  3. Power the piston

  4. Let the piston retract

IMPORTANT: I know that the item fram will be broken if a block is in front of it. But if you retract the piston the item frame will be updated somehow and breaks always and immediately and not after a random time span.

I don't think it's the piston retracting that's causing this. The problem seems to be that you're putting a solid block in the same space as an item frame. This will always cause the item frame to break after a short delay.

Duplicate of .. well, not really MC-135785 (carpets on item frames) nor MC-108320, as the latter is about Invulnerable-true item frames, but it's basically the same as here for Survival, as in, if a block is within the same space as an item frame, it will pop off.

I know that the item fram will be broken if a block is in front of it. But if you retract the piston the item frame will be updated somehow and breaks always and immediately and not after a random time span.

"Item frames are updating properly" is not a bug
