There are some problems with the potted cactus model:
The top face borrows from the side texture of the cactus, as opposed to the top. This is especially noticable in Programmer Art, but still applies for the vanilla texture pack.
The top face is missing its cullface argument.
The inner faces of the pot, as well as the dirt texture, are all present despite being completely obscured by the cactus.
