Goats use the "Footsteps" subtitle instead of the "Goat steps" subtitle

Moderator Note by [~Avoma]

This issue was originally considered to be a valid problem by Mojang, however, since MC-177110 was fixed by making all entities with unique stepping subtitles use the "Footsteps" subtitle, the behavior described in this report (MC-224950) is now intentional.

The Bug:

Goats use the "Footsteps" subtitle instead of the "Goat steps" subtitle.

According to the official source strings on the crowdin minecraft project, the "Goat steps" subtitle exists but is not used for when the goat walks. Instead, the "Footsteps" subtitle is displayed.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Ensure that you have subtitles enabled in your accessibility settings.

  2. Spawn a goat, wait for it to walk around, and as it does, watch the subtitle overlay closely.

  3. Take note as to whether or not goats use the "Footsteps" subtitle instead of the "Goat steps" subtitle.

Observed Behavior:

Goats use the "Footsteps" subtitle.

Expected Behavior:

Goats would use the "Goat steps" subtitle.

@unknown, this isn't a duplicate of MC-177110 since the "Goat steps" subtitle exists within the game. The mobs listed in MC-177110 do not have unique stepping sounds and aren't in the source strings for the game.

Would this be considered intentional as of 23w32a as per the resolution of MC-177110?

Avoma

MC-177110 was fixed by making all entities with unique stepping subtitles use the "Footsteps" subtitle, so with that in mind, this behavior described in this report (MC-224950) is now intentional so I'll be resolving this ticket as "Works As Intended".
