The bug

Axolotls sometimes do not play dead and regenerate when their health is low.

To reproduce

  1. Under water, summon a drowned.

  2. Summon an axolotl with low health:

    /summon minecraft:axolotl ~ ~ ~ {Health:2.0f}

Expected result

The axolotl would play dead and regenerate.

Actual result

The axolotl tries to attack the drowned, which retaliates and kills the axolotl immediately.

I don't see the issue here the axolotl fought the drowned regenerated then fought it again

I think I see the point that the reporter is trying to make. They expect the axolotl to always play dead when its health is low, and stop attacking the drowned. If that is the case, I can confirm.

Please check if that's still an issue for you in the latest 1.18 development snapshot.

Wow, didn't see this, but yeah, ampolive is correct. That was the point I was trying to make. Usually when the Axolotl gets to low enough health it will: stop movement; play dead; regen; continue fighting. However if you watch the video, the Axolotl continues to attack without regening its health.

In 22w05a, Axolotls easily die often because of this
