The Bug:
Large groups of blocks can occasionally spawn floating underground.
Steps to Reproduce:
Create a world with the following seed and teleport to the following coordinates.
Version: 21w44a
Seed: 8731922480704591603
Coordinates: /execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @s -1129.71 -24.80 -1025.31 746.89 26.12Take note as to whether or not large groups of blocks can occasionally spawn floating underground.
Observed Behavior:
Large groups of blocks can occasionally spawn floating underground.
Expected Behavior:
Large groups of blocks would not be able to spawn floating underground. Instead, they should have some kind of support or not generate altogether.

Hi, yes, apologies for the late response. I can confirm that this issue is still present in 21w44a and you can use the following seed and coordinates to reproduce this. I've updated this ticket accordingly and also provided an additional video and screenshot demonstrating this problem in 21w44a. Hopefully, this helps. 🙂

With the current aquifer implementation that will happen sometimes when a small aquifer coincides with a large cave. As long as it is fairly rare we will most likely not fix this.
Yep, that's absolutely fine, no worries. This behavior is definitely quite rare as it took me almost an hour to find an example of this in 21w44a. 🙂
This ticket relates to MC-68793. MC-68793 is about how parts of mountains can occasionally generate floating but this ticket (MC-237155) is about how cave generation can sometimes cause blocks to float in abnormal ways.
