The bug
Copying containers with NBT into themselves causes intense server-side lag and eventual crash.
To reproduce
1. Place down a chest (chest A) and put some blocks in it.
2. Place down another separate chest (chest B).
3. Ctrl + pick block chest A.
4. Put the picked chest A into chest B.
5. Ctrl + pick block chest B.
6. Put the picked chest B into chest A.
7. Repeat steps 3 to 6 several times.
8. Ctrl + pick block chest A and place it into chest A.
9. Ctrl + pick block chest A and place it into chest B.
10. Repeat steps 8 and 9.
11. ❌ The game will freeze and crash.

I am unable to reproduce this issue, can you confirm that you are still able to reproduce this issue on the latest version?
I was able to reproduce this in both 1.21.3 and 24w46a by nesting chests inside eachother repeatedly. Eventually, this led to the game freezing up and crashing:
