The bug
Several cases of chunks flickering in and out and not being rendered partially or entirely, persist in 21w41a and later snapshots. Sometimes, the game will not render some chunks that should be visible, like in MC-70850, which can last up to 20 seconds.
This occurs on all "Chunk Builder" settings.
To reproduce
1. Go to spectator mode and roll the mouse wheel up to increase flying speed.
2. Explore new chunks and watch.

Can confirm the issue even on higher-end systems.

Based on personal experience, it seems like the game likes to keep previously nearby chunks loaded even when you're already further away from them than what your rendering distance would normally render instead of unloading them to make processing space or something for the new chunks you're exploring.

Affects 1.18 Pre-3
Can confirm in 1.18 Pre-release 5.

Affects 1.18 Pre-6

Doesn't seem to be fixed in 22w03a.

Can you provide a new repro video please?

Done. Attached both a video and some screenshots of the issue occurring in 22w03a.

Thanks! You are overtaking chunk rendering by moving very fast. To fix this chunk rendering, and chunk loading, and worlden need to be an order of magnitude faster. We can not aim for that now.
The issue which was actually fixed: some chunks were significantly lagging behind the "rendering wave", sometimes to the point they are not being rendered at all before the player stops moving, like in the spin.mp4 scenario.

I see. That issue is indeed fixed. Thanks for the response! 🙂
Can confirm, this mainly happens when the player tries to go and reach chunks that are yet not fully rendered, easily reproduced on spectator with high speed.
