1.19 Named Mobs Disappearing

I loaded my 1.18 world into 1.19 only to find that my farms of various sorts (enderman, iron golem, etc...) were not working as they should be. I came to find out that the named mobs that were key to making the farms work were despawning. I opened a new world to see if this was still the case, sure enough, it was. The mobs would disapear regardless of named status or if items were held by such mobs. The mobs I tested included zombies and endermites, both used in the farms I have.

Hi, I can confirm this bug also affects zombified piglins.

Can confirm, had two zombies disappear, one held items and the other was named. Nothing nearby that could kill them.

Hi! Were the mobs you tested this with named with a name tag, or named by changing the name of a spawn egg?

Hi, with a nametag. Please reopen the bug!

I'm not the reporter, but I just encountered this. A few dozen named piglins that I'd had for over a year disappeared without a trace. I've tried to come up with any ways they could have died, but I can't find any. I even tested what would happen if hoglins spawned in the area and wandered into the space with the piglins, but the piglins are behind closed trap doors and the two don't see each other.

Seeing this report again, it looks like MC-54556, named spawn egg mobs despawning, which is by design. A name doesn't prevent despawning, PersistenceRequired does, which name tags set alongside the name.

To anyone who reproduced this with name tags, I'd suggest providing steps to reproduce and/or a video of the issue.

Thank you for your report!
After consideration, the issue is being closed as Won't Fix.

Please note that this is not the same as Working as Intended, as this bug report correctly describes behavior in the game that might not be the intended or desirable behavior, but it will not be fixed right now. Sometimes, this is because the issue reported is minor and/or impossible to change without large architectural changes to the code base.

Is that a joke? This bug does have a huge impact on gameplay, that "important" Mojang priority confirms. It is hard to believe that large architectural changes to the code base would be needed just to fix nametags not assigning a tag anymore!
