Redstone wire uses "stone" block sounds instead of "sand" sounds

The bug

The placement, breaking, walking on, etc. sounds for minecraft:redstone_wire is the same sound which is used for stone blocks. This does not make much sense, as redstone wire is a granular material as opposed to a large chunk of rock. As a result, it'd be expected that the "sand" sound, rather than the "stone" sound, would be used for redstone wire.

This was originally reported under MC-125282, which was later merged into MC-91091. However, many of the cases previously included in that ticket have since been split into other tickets and officially fixed (recent examples include MC-182820 and MC-200484), so I'm giving this one a chance on its own as well. I'd recommend repointing MC-125282 into this ticket as a duplicate.

How to reproduce

  1. Obtain redstone dust

  2. Place and break it

Expected results

The "sand" set of block sounds would be used.

Actual results

The "stone" set of blocks sounds are used instead.

How to fix

Fixing this is as simple as changing this from the stone sounds over to the sand sounds (or perhaps giving it its own, new, distinct sounds).

How exactly is this invalid if MC-182820 and MC-200484 were considered completely fine?

MC-269984 has also been reopened recently, so this being dismissed as a feature request makes even less sense. MC-265459 and MC-265460 rightfully remain open, so I don't get why this ticket isn't.

MC-182820 and MC-200484 describe issues where the sound doesn't match the material the block is made out of. Repeaters/comparators are made out of stone, not wood, but made stone sounds. Jukeboxes are completely made out of wood but made stone sounds too.

MC-269984 is valid since there's a newly added sound for cobwebs that can be used (edit: and also was included in the much older MC-94413). MC-265459 and MC-265460 have not yet been triaged and can still be resolved as invalid or WAI by Mojang.

You're requesting a change here that's not motivated by any logical explanation; redstone makes a stone sound because it's a kind of stone (as is in the name); requesting to change that without any further clarification on why it is a bug is obviously feedback / a change request.

All these decisions are completely consistent with each other, and even if they weren't, Mojang always makes the final call about what is and isn't a bug and I'm asking you to finally respect that. Thank you.

The reasoning here is that redstone dust is a granular material composed of chunks of rock, which is something sand is also classified as.

This is the reasoning that Mojang has already seen and they consider it feedback.
