The Bug:

Players' capes detach from their bodies when wearing non-chestplate items in the chest slot.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Give yourself a diamond that can be placed in the chest slot by using the command provided below.

    /give @s minecraft:diamond[minecraft:equippable={slot:'chest'}]
  2. Equip the diamond into the chest slot, enter third person and look at how the cape is positioned.

Observed Behavior:

Players' capes detach from their bodies when wearing non-chestplate items in the chest slot.

Expected Behavior:

Players' capes would not detach from their bodies when wearing non-chestplate items in the chest slot.

Also can confirm:

I think it's because if you make an item equippable using a datapack you'll probably also use a resource pack to make it look like proper armor when equipped.

So if this is fixed and someone creates custom armor with a datapack the cape will clip into their body
