According to the Bedrock Edition 1.21.50.26 Preview changelog:
All trees can now grow through leaves, with the exception of Cherry trees cannot grow through their own leaves
Steps to reproduce:
Place down a cherry sapling and cherry leaves on top of it
Bone meal the cherry sapling a few times
Observed result:
The sapling grows up into a cherry tree.
Expected result:
The cherry sapling does not grow through cherry leaves.

This might be intentional. Tree leaves would normally be letting any tree grow through them.
It would be weird for this to be intended if the behavior is not changed in Bedrock Edition.
