MC-279068

Everything flickers when exposed to block light sources

According to MC-276807, lower light levels making everything flicker should have been fixed in 24w39a. This is, however, not the case when using block light sources.

Steps to reproduce (a video is attached):

  1. Go into an area with light level 0.

  2. Place a torch.

  3. Look closely at the ground.

  4. ❌ Everything flickers subtly.

Note that the part in MC-276807 that refers to everything flickering at night (skylight issue) no longer occurs, but the rest still does.

Are you certain that this behavior is new to the game? In what respect does it differ from MC-1843, which was introduced in Minecraft Beta 1.8?

So apparently this bug was not reintroduced, but actually never fixed. However, it is included in the scope of the fixed MC-276807 (there is also a video of the block light source bug attached to that report), and I also had a conversation with a developer in the report who seemed to deem this a bug. So the behavior is not new, but it should have been fixed according to MC-276807.

Can confirm, the flickering is very subtle and seems to be slightly more obvious when looking at it closely, and on light levels below 15-14.

Thank you for your report!
After consideration, the issue is being closed as Working as Intended.

Please note, that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.
