Spiders are completely passive in lit areas, instead of being neutral

In previous Minecraft versions, a spider will attack the player in self defense if attacked. This is regardless of light levels, time of day, etc.

In minecraft 1.21.5, spiders will never attack a player if they are in a lit area. You can punch a spider to death in a lit area and it will not fight back even once.

Hmmmm….

Strange.

Seems to work fine for me.

BTW, AFAIK, Mojang actually releases minor changes and fixed that do not bear a version number. Try launching Minecraft while connected to internet to see if it has been fixed.

I just started up vanilla Minecraft 1.21.5 from the official Minecraft launcher, the bug is indeed fixed there.

After seeing that it was fixed there I started up my vanilla Minecraft 1.21.5 instance from my modpack launcher, which is where I originally found the bug. The bug is fixed there as well.

I believe this confirms that it was stealthily fixed with an update in the past 24 hours. Nice :]

There is no such thing as a stealth update for Java Edition. Could this be MC-195278?

clamlol, yes I think that is it actually!

The bug stopped happening shortly after I removed “gamerule universalAnger true“ from the load.mcfunction file of my datapack, I just never made the connection.

I tested, and setting universalAnger to true does indeed cause the bug for me still. I guess this was a duplicate then, here’s hoping that bug gets fixed!
