Leashing one of two leash-connected entities will sometimes break the connecting leash

If you leash an entity that is already leashed to another entity, the connection to the other entity will sometimes break, with no way to tell when it will happen or when it won’t, unless you know which of the two is technically the owner of the leash.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. spawn two mobs

  2. leash mob A and connect it to mob B

  3. leash and unleash mob B

  4. attempt to leash and unleash mob A

Observer result:

You will be able to successfully leash mob B without breaking the connection between two mobs. Attempting to leash mob A will result in the connecting leash being broken and popped off

Expected result:

Regardless of which of the 2 mobs you leash, the behavior will be the same - you will leash the mob without breaking the leash that connects the two mobs.

You can check the attached video to see that I am able to leash the cow while keeping the cow connected to the pig, however I am unable to leash the pig without breaking the connection between the two mobs. all of this just because of which mob I initially choose to leash in step 2. This leads to very unintuitive, confusing and annoying gameplay.

In this case, Mob B isn’t really leashed per se, because it is the “leader” that is carrying the leashed mob (Mob A), so leashing Mob B, in this case the pig, doesn’t result in leash snapping because it isn’t until the player right clicks it when it starts being leashed to the player itself, which is carrying it and might leash it to a fence or another mob.

While yes it’s not really that intuitive visually, I don’t think it’s really a bug.

Thank you for your report!
However, this issue is Working as Intended.

The report you have submitted is working as intended. The mob you attach the leash to will become the "leader". This means the leashed mob who is not "leader" loses most of its AI and will just follow the leader.

You can tell apart the two easily by looking at who follows which and by the fact that the leashed mob will always be looking towards the leading mob.

Because of this distinguishion, it doesn't make much sense that mob B would suddenly be leashed when you click mob A.
