Game freezes some times when pausing the game with Esc or opening command blocks in single player. When it freezes the minecraft window sometimes will look normal (shows the pause menu) but clicking anything does not work, or sometimes it will show the (unreponsive) text in the window title bar. It happens more often in worlds with many copper golems from my testing.
It’s been happen ever since 1.21.9 snapshot and is still happening in 1.21.10. It does not happen in 1.21.7 or lower versions. Having the Minecraft Launcher’s Log turned on doesn’t show anything problematic but the saving DIM stuff (see image). What could be causing this?

Have you installed the latest graphics drivers?
Have you tried reinstalling launcher and Minecraft Game? (Remember to create a backup files)
If you are using any add-ons or resource packs, could you provide a complete list of them?
Could you please include details about your device and system (RAM, CPU, GPU spec)?
this is me playing in the snapshot when the mc game froze when i paused the game (through opening command block this time). Sometime i can exit out of the mc window but other times i have to use Task Manager to kill java.
That is strange. Have you tried reinstalling the game? And have you noticed any large and sudden drops in FPS or TPS while playing, or does the game work fine until you pause the world?
It seems to crash while trying to do the highlighted parts in this image.
Any idea why?
No I don’t notice any FPS or TPS problems. My Task Manager shows my computer is running without any problems.
A couple more things:
Could you upload a recording showing the moment the issue happens, with F3 enabled?
By any chance, does this not happen when menu background blur (in video settings) is turned off?
It happened alot on during my streams so I’m sure there’s footage but I haven’t gathered any.
I do play with the background blur off. IDK if it was off this time since MC sometimes resets my settings.
After having this problem since May 2025, I think it’s related to newer versions of MC not working with AMD newer Graphic drivers. Including Java 1.21.8+ but might have started with changes in 1.21.5 related to graphics. I was using AMD graphic driver 31.0.21923.11000 but downgraded to 31.0.21923.1000 and have not had MC crashes so far, but it’s still early.
Is there anyone else having a similar problem?
Please upload a video recording of the issue with the debug screen (F3) enabled and showing the game version. You can record your screen using:
On Windows, the built-in Snipping Tool app (shift+win+S)
On macOS, the the built-in Screenshot app (shift+cmd+5)
Third-party software such as OBS
It is recommended that you trim and/or reduce the quality of your recording so it is under 10MB, as this will make the upload much quicker.
