In 25w44a, the minimum value of max_entity_cramming was set to 1. With this value, even two mobs in a shared space will start to cram and take damage. In previous versions, the gamerule could be set to 0 to disable cramming altogether. This is no longer possible. Setting it absurdly high could work, but has a performance impact associated with counting up nearby mobs instead of simply disabling cramming.
How to reproduce
/gamerule max_entity_cramming 0Put a bunch of mobs in a hole
Expected results
Command succeeds and mobs don’t take damage
Observed results
Command fails and mobs take damage
Notes
Existing worlds that have this gamerule set to 0 get it set to 1 when upgrading. This means that existing worlds that disabled cramming (presumably because they have mobs in a shared space) will now immediately kill almost all crammed mobs upon upgrading.
