Missing default translation for control binding

Translations are missing (on Linux [Mint 22.2]) for the following default keys A (key.keyboard.a), 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 (not 6 and 9) (at key.keyboard.NUMBER respectively). Languages known to be affected include but are not limited to English (US), English (AUS).

To Reproduce:

  • Open Minecraft 1.21.11 (OS on which bug was found: Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon)

  • Open Options → Controls → Key binds menu

  • Key binding for strafe left shows ‘key.keyboard.a’ instead of 'A'

  • Other untranslated bindings are visible in the Inventory section.

Expected result: When a key binding is set to A (or another key listed), the controls menu shows A (or the other key)

Actual result: When a key binding is set to A (or another key listed), the controls menu (and all in-game appearances such as the Tutorial toasts) shows key.keyboard.A (or the other key).

Environment

Linux Mint 22.2 with Cinnamon, Minecraft: Java Edition version 1.21.11,

  • Keyboard language is English (Australia) - Identical to English (US)

  • Have NOT tried reinstalling anything.

  • No numpad on this computer

  • This issue also occurs on 26.1-snapshot-1 running on the same machine

Following an uninstall and reinstall of the Minecraft Launcher and installing the game into a new directory (i.e. not .minecraft), the issue persists. (The launcher was uninstalled via apt and did not require logging back in when reinstalled so may not have fully uninstalled)

I was looking into this, and I think it might be caused by GLFW not finding the key names. I’d be curious to see your options.txt and maybe an F3+C crash report for the LWJGL version.

The issue has self-corrected, however I’ve included the reports anyway in case it reappears.
