This same issue was happening in 26.3 Snapshot 5 and has continued in 26.3 Snapshot 6. When creating a portal in the over world, then going to the nether, then returning to the over world, a new portal is created in the over world rather than being transported to the over world portal you used to get to the nether. The newly created portal is usually in line of site of the original portal you created to get to the nether but terrain can sometimes block the view.
Environment
I run Minecraft on an OpenSuse Linux Leap 16 OS on a Ryzen 7 with Radeon 780M graphics. It has 32 Gigs of Ram and a 1 TB M2 SSD.
