From a very long distance away, beacon beams appear very dark. See the beams on the right in the screenshots.

The beacon beam still turns black when seen from more than 160 Meters in 13w42b !
(note that chunks already start to unload on this distance because of MC-31622, but as long as the respective chunk is visible, you can see the black beam too)
Can no longer confirm in 14w10c, anyone else ? MC-50654 may be a bit related, but cannot confirm that too.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been deliviered.
I suspect this might be an aliasing issue, does moving the camera around make parts of the beams change back to white?
