[MC-41536] 1.7.2 users able to play on snapshot 13w49a

I dont know but my brother is able to join my 13w49a with a 1.7.2 client? Is this intended or is that a bug?(If it is a bug i think it would be a serious one)

This is not a bug. It's intended so 1.7.2 people can play on 1.7.3 servers.

No network code has been updated allowing the client to connect to older versions.

But if you play with a 1.7.2 on a 13w49a sever will i get all server side fixes? And what happens with the new mob that has been added? Will it show as a purple cube?

You should get all server side fixes yes, sorry I misread. However any client-side fixes will not be present, and any server/client fixes may not work. Best to run both the same version if possible, but shouldn't cause any issues.

Why would this be a bug anyway? It's not like it causes any harm; in fact it increases usability. So why would this need to be "fixed"?

Sometimes when there ARE made network changes it can cause instability(Or weird issues) on both server and client and may cause both the server and client to crash.
