If you give an item to a dead player, it will drop it on the ground (logical in my opinion). The problem is that no one is able to pick up this item except the dead player when he respawns.
After exploring the world save, I found that the EntityItem has the DataTag 'Owner' which value is the name of the concerned dead player. That Tag doesn't exist on items naturally dropped by the death of the player. And if you throw it manually, it has the DataTag 'Thrower' (with the same value) but can obviously be picked up by anyone.

That's a single player crash report, please attach it when playing on the server where you've seen the issue.
It's in LAN mode with a friend's account. Should I also attach a crash report from a 'real' server ?
I hate to do that kind of comment, but I really need to know if this is intended or if this will be fixed please ...
How this issue "duplicates" the other one ? It's about the same subject but it's not actually the same problem ...
Not really fixed as you can't target dead player anymore (dead player are no longer count in the selector collection (@a, @e etc...))
That's why I've put quotes.
But I found a way to spawn items on a dead Player : http://puu.sh/6BBz1.jpg (I've posted this on your twitter days ago but it seems you didn't saw it 😃 )
Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while in-game and attach the crash report (
[minecraft|http://hopper.minecraft.net/help/finding-minecraft-data-folder]/crash-reports/crash-<DATE>-client.txt
) here.
