If a player dies and you give him/her a item with /give it will act like a summon command, so the item spawns at the place where the player died.
This works only if the players didn't revive himself/herself.

I think, for example if you run a give command at a commandblock and the player is dead, the comparator should give an off signal out. If it worked, it should give an on signal out 🙂
But we should let the mods
decide.

Should be marked as Intended. When your health points count is 0, any item in your inventory will drop. You are giving an item to player with 0 health points, so they drop. No bugs here.
